The Claims vs. The Realities:

The Claims;

"Families, youth, wheelchair accessible"

"This facility provides supportive housing to new families and youth, including 10 wheelchair-accessible units. The Station Street living model maximizes independence, with units having private bathrooms and kitchens. Residents have access to 24-hour free laundry, a daily home-cooked meal and numerous wellness programs."

"A wide range of supports are available, including PHS mental health workers, on-site nurse, a clinically supervised managed alcohol program, and an Indigenous outreach program."

The Realities;

The Building's Construction is Above-Average, Concrete Construction with Medical Grade Electrical as evidenced in the 'upside-down' Electrical Outlets - like in a Medical Building.

The Building Sanitation regimen is Actionable, in a Word. Although there are Garbage Rooms on every Floor, presumably equipped with a (gravity fed) Chute - instead, each one on each Floor was / is Locked. Some are in Fact enjoyed by the more Criminally Active Tenants as 'Storage'. All Garbage including Medical Waste is thrown in open-top Garbage 'Cans' with the Garbage usually spilling out over the Floor. These 'Cans' are placed one on each Floor in front of the Elevator Doors so you are in close contact with them upon ingress and egress to your Living Unit.

The Building's attention to Fire Safety is also Actionable. The Fire Bells are squelched in some instances by both the Tenants and by some of the PHS Staff - the Night Shift people. This is done as the Tenants enjoy the use of the Fire Escape to do inter-Floor Drug Dealing & Sex Trafficking for the purposes of Street Drug Consumption. The electronic Fire Alarms above each of the Fire Doors is also squelched quite often for the same reason. Both PHS Day or Senior Staff as well as VCH, the VPD, BC Ambulance, as well as the Fire Department themselves walked past that Fire Bell you see here - for Months. It was right outside my Door, I would watch them walk past it several times as all the entities were present in this Building several times while this was occurring, but doing Nothing to Stop it.

On average; One Death per Month in this Building that was once designated for Children and Families.

A partial List:

The place was run as a Bawdy House in the time that I was there. I would see Men dressed as Construction or perhaps even City Workers; Men in Road Crew / Sanitation attire frequenting this Building during daylight hours with Beer & Takeout, visiting the 'Sex Trade Workers' who Reside within. They are not 'Sex Trade Workers' as such as they have No License to be referred to as such. They are predominantly Women with Mental Disabilities as well as Mental Impairment from the Street Drugs that they consume throughout each Day. These Women are in a constant state of the equivalent of a 'Date Rape Drug' and have been so broken now that they have simply Monetized their Genitalia to support their Drug dependencies.

(PHS) Building Manager

The Women who Work as Staff in this Building; both of PHS and VCH, (heartlessly, in my view) allow these practices to occur in this and in other PHS Buildings. I fail to understand the lack of Sorority, I had thought this to be a sacrosanct thing among Women in General; to feel for each other and defend one another. Not the Case here. Simply exploitation at it's worst.
